The first person feature is really awesome! I have been using it with the Parallel 42 campout addon in VR, and the immersion is mind blowing. I recently landed the NXcub on a secluded beach along the shore of Lake Superior and set up camp to watch the sun set. I could easily sit in a chair and even climb into the tent and see the stars through the doorway. As the sun was setting I decided to take a walk along the lake shore. Eventually it got pretty dark so I turned on the flashlight and was quite surprised to see an airport tug following along next to me. Obviously, having an airport tug follow you on a lonely beach in the UP of Michigan makes for a strange experience.
I’m guessing that you leveraged the headlight on the tug to act as the flashlight, and maybe the tug is only visible in VR. In any case, would it be possible to hide the tug somehow, or otherwise create a handheld flashlight or a headlamp? I would really like to do some nighttime exploring in out of the way back country places, and the tug is not invited.
Thanks!
I returned to the same spot today, after the latest update. The flashlight has changed from the headlight on a tug to a light on a baggage loader. The loader does a pretty good job of staying behind me while I am walking around in VR. Occasionally I can see the front of the loader when I look straight down toward my feet, but mostly I need to turn around and look behind me to see it. It is pretty unobtrusive, probably even more so when not in VR (I didn't try).
I walked pretty far down the beach, and also spawned in and out of the plane several times. The results were fairly consistent. I'm guessing that most people won't notice the loader if they don't know to look for it. Of course, it would be best if the airport vehicle (whatever it is) wasn't visible.
I'm still awed by this feature, and don't want to be picky. And I'm sure you've gotten a ton of suggestions. But here are a couple of mine:
In VR it would be nicer if the left and right arrow keys rotated the direction of travel, since that would make walking seem more natural. It's a little disorienting to use the mouse while looking around with the headset at the same time. And anyways, no one sidles sideways when walking, like a fiddler crab (do they?)
It's cool that I can bring up the menu while walking in VR. When I'm far from the plane I can open the map in a tablet (such as Sky4Sim) to see where I am. But when I move the mouse around to toggle a menu item, or try to interact with the tablet, I also change the first-person orientation. Again, this is disorienting.
Thanks again for such a great feature!
This is a known issue 😥. Have you tried turning the flashlight off and on again? How far were you from the plane?
Noticed the tug come scrolling in when you use the ESC key to pause. :)
